Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260 teased the return of a certain Gojo Satoru, something that fans had been pining for. However, a theory on X states that the character might not actually be Gojo. Rather, it could likely be Kenjaku in Gojo's body.

Fans of the series are aware that Kenjaku managed to swap bodies with Suguru Geto once the latter passed away. In this case, there is speculation that the same may have happened here. Considering the recurring themes creator Gege Akutami uses, this theory seems quite plausible.

Moreover, if this really is the case, it would be fitting to the story for a couple of reasons.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The possibility of Gojo not returning in chapter 260 might make sense

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260, the ending bit of the chapter teases the return of Gojo Satoru. Previously, fans pleaded for the Six Eyes user to make a comeback and with this chapter, Akutami seemingly heeded their cries. However, a certain theory formulated on X says otherwise.

X user @holy_yuji theorizes that the mysterious silhouette might be Gojo, but not really so. What this means is that there is someone else in Gojo's body and only one sorcerer comes to mind in this scenario - Kenjaku. The theory states that similar to when Kenjaku arrived to absorb a defeated Mahito in Shibuya, he may return once more to do the same.

The setup is quite identical, with Sukuna on his last legs having exhausted his Cursed Technique and Yuji, at the moment, a completely different beast. But this time, due to Geto's body being done away with, the next best option was his best friend, Gojo Satoru.

This theory does have some plausible points backing it up. First, the series looks to have a theme of cyclicality as its motif. When looked at closely, numerous cases arise where characters experience a full cycle, i.e., birth, death, and rebirth.

For instance, Toji Fushiguro dying and later returning through Granny Ogami's seance; Gojo's near-death experience after which he returns as "the Strongest"; Mechamaru being reborn after receiving a fully functioning body from Mahito; Heian Era sorcerers being reincarnated for the Culling Games.

Another point backing this theory would be Gojo and Geto's brotherhood. It is unnecessary to mention how close they were. Each of them choosing to walk different paths was a crucial point in the series and contributed in a big way to the story.

Kenjaku exploited this by posing as Geto to catch Gojo off guard, which led to him getting sealed. Thus, the two characters sharing a similar fate at the end wouldn't be extraordinary.

A final point stands that Akutami could be setting up Yuji to face his real parental figure. Recently it was confirmed that Kenjaku was the real parent of Yuji and Sukuna is his uncle. With Yuji already facing the latter in an intense penultimate battle, his final fight could be against Kenjaku in Gojo's body.

It would be similar to the conclusion of the Shibuya Incident - Yuji defeats Mahito, and Kenjaku arrives and absorbs him to acquire his power. Here, Sukuna aka Megumi Fushiguro has been given the authority to kick-off the Tengen-Humanity Merger. Kenjaku could return and absorb a weakened Sukuna to acquire this authority.

Final Thoughts

To conclude, In this specific theory, there is definitely the argument that Ui Ui secured Gojo's body, which Sukuna confirmed. However, it cannot be ruled out that Mei Mei and Kenjaku could have possibly struck a deal - Gojo's body for money and her safety. During the Shibuya Incident, she turned tail and fled.

With the given facts, this is another theory that seems quite plausible. While a large part of the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom has been pining for a Gojo return, Akutami could answer their pleas but with a twist, as always. It wouldn't be the first time he threw a major curveball at the fans.
