If modern baseball ever had a polarizing figure, it was Trevor Bauer. Despite not having tossed an MLB inning in nearly three years, the pitcher is apparently as relevant as ever.

On Friday, the 33 year-old put out a lengthy statement on X. Bauer covered many themes in the text, which came in response to a Sports Illustrated article. The ace's main qualm was about the fact that, despite being cleared of the sexual assault charges that led to his suspension, MLB teams remain unwilling to sign him.

It was not long before Bauer, a known social media enthusiast, sparked rigorous discussion online. While some fans seemed to support his point, others believed that the right-hander's big league days are now behind him.

At the time of his suspension in 2021, Bauer was 8-5, sporting a 2.59 ERA with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Months earlier, the LA-native had signed a record-breaking contract worth $102 million across the span of three seasons.

Needless to say, there were plenty of detracting comments:

"We do not care"

"You're not likeable, same reasons folks don't get hired at Target. Sorry!"

"Stop whining and play in Mexico"

Even though his suspension expired in 2022, Bauer decided not to play in MLB in 2023, instead signing a one-year, $4 million deal with the Yokohama BayStars in Japan. After going 10-4 with a 2.76 ERA on the season, Trevor Bauer came back to America, where he has been promoting his case to various MLB teams in hopes of receiving a contract.

"You didn't answer his question though!"

"Have you thought about becoming the first female pitcher in MLB?"

"MLB has no obligation to let you play"

Originally drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks, Bauer's days in MLB were few when he was already being viewed with suspicion. Odd warmup routines, social media shenanigans, and little fear of voicing his political opinions ultimately made Bauer a lot of enemies among MLB fans, but a considerable number also support him.

Trevor Bauer's persona will split fans forever

The fact that Bauer won the 2020 NL Cy Young Award with the Cincinnati Reds does not seem to be enticing any teams to make a move. In fact, the silence has been defeaning when it comes to potential suitors. In his post on X, Bauer went on to say:

"I get your point, but the real point is, they’ve already done their investigation. They already suspended me. We already fought it. And I’ve already served my reduced suspension. I’ve also already served my original suspension plus 3 months and counting. I’m cleared to play."

Truth to some, blasphemy to others. Wherever Trevor Bauer goes next, the noise is sure to follow.
