As months and years go by in Manor Lords, you would probably look to build your own militia in the game to protect your town as well as raid nearby regions. While the game will start you off with some weapons and shields that your townsfolks can use, it may not be enough as you progress late into the game. Additionally, there is no clear explanation of how to set up your militia or even grow your forces.

This Manor Lords guide will explain how to create your armed forces as you build your town.

Making your militia in Manor Lords

To create your militia in Manor Lords, you will need to wait until your town has at least 36 male settlers. Then, click on the Army button on the toolbar and select “Create new units”.

You should then be able to access all the weapons and shields in your inventory. Select the respective militia from there. You can then rally your troops when it’s time for battle. You will need a certain number of townsfolks and weapons to make your militia in the game.

All militia types in Manor Lords

There are four types of militia units that you can make in the game:

  • Militia Footmen (sidearms, small shields)
  • Spear Militia (spears, large shields)
  • Polearm Militia (polearms)
  • Archer Militia (warbows)

To increase the number of militia members, you will need to increase your approval ratings as a lord. The higher your approval rating, the more willing will townsfolks be to join your army.

How to get different weapons in Manor Lords

To make your militia, you will need weapons. There are a couple of ways to get more weapons in the game:

1) Make a backyard extension to Level 2 Burgage Plots

Once your Burgage Plots reach level 2, you will be able to make backyard extensions to the structure. Here are the types of extensions that you can make:

  • Armorer's Workshop (produces helmets for any militia type)
  • Blacksmith's Workshop (produces smithing tools, spears, and sidearms)
  • Bowyer's Workshop (produces warbows)
  • Joiner's Workshop (produces wooden parts and all shield types)

You will, however, need raw materials for these structures to make and upgrade weapons.

2) Establishing trade routes

Another way of obtaining weapons in the game is to establish trade routes. Trading Posts will help you trade weapons for raw materials and other resources for weapons.

You can gain access to various weapon types with this and make a versatile militia adept in all forms of combat.
