Fortnite has a very active development team. Aside from their official posts on Twitter, they even tend to reply to posts on other social media platforms. This has allowed the community to provide feedback and get to know each other better actively.

Stemming from this good relationship, the developers often take it upon themselves to troll streamers through subtle means. This can be via the Item Shop, in-game moments, and sometimes special occasions.

1) "I would even buy a plunger-ax."

In 2018, Tyler 'Ninja' Blevins took to social media to complain about the lack of good cosmetics in the Item Shop. He was vocal about wanting Epic Games to add new things as the Item Shop's content became stale. He ended things by saying, "I would even buy a plunger-ax."

Epic Games took the opportunity to 'troll' Ninja and adhered to his request. They took the concept of 'plunger-ax' quite literally and presented the Plunja (Harvesting Tool) to the Item Shop. Suffice it to say; Ninja could not contain his laughter when he noted it in the Item Shop.

2) "There's a Diplodoculus!"

Back in Fortnite Chapter 1, Epic Games began stretching their creative wings and covering the island with random memorabilia to add flavor. One day on a drive leading away from Paradise Palms, Alastair 'Ali-A' Aiken saw an inanimate dinosaur and announced in a live video, "There's a diplodocus!"

Fast forward to 2022, and in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2, Ali-A finally got his own Icon Series Outfit in-game. Much like every Icon Series bundle, this too contains an Icon Series Emote. The Emote features the character riding a 'Lil' Diplodoculus.' It's safe to say that Epic Games trolled Ali-A effortlessly.

3) "You can't use a golf club in basketball!"

Lannan Neville Eacott, better known as LazarBeam, is one of the most prominent content creators/streamers in Fortnite. However, like everyone else, Epic Games makes no exceptions for anyone who breaks the game's rules, strictly speaking, golf.

During a livestream with fellow content creators/streamers, LazarBeam tried to score points on the basketball court using a golf ball and a club. It would seem that an Epic Games employee was watching the stream and decided to drop the 'banhammer' on him for his act of travesty in the name of sport.

4) "We're going to execute a rescue mission!"

Elliott 'MrMuselk' Watkins was trying to be a good guy and rescue an opponent stranded at the bottom of a cliff. While he did have good intentions, the execution was somewhat lacking, resulting in the opponent, known as Chappadoodle, being eliminated.

While this wasn't exactly sad, considering it was a Battle Royale match, Epic Games decided to cash in on the hype and troll both players. Next to where Chappadoodle was eliminated, the developers added a gravestone to immortalize the occasion.

5) "Never gonna let you down!"

Back in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1, Epic Games didn't just troll content creators/streamers but the community as a whole. On February 15, 2020, they added the 'New OP Outfit' to the Item Shop. It was heavily promoted and showed up on the in-game news screen.

The Outfit in question mentioned bonus XP, free shield potions, and a Rocket Launcher. This was indeed too good to be true, and it wasn't. Upon clicking on the 'New OP Outfit,' players were whisked to the Item Shop and presented with the 'Never Gonna' Emote, which featured the song Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley.
