Epic Games has a history of adding off-beat items to Fortnite that several players can use, apart from the regular loot pool they can find across the island. These can sometimes add to their advantage during gameplay, while at the same time they can become a curse if the opponent uses them.

Every other season in Fortnite has a different loot pool and the game adds new items and features to keep the experience exciting. However, sometimes when the gear turn out to be overpowered/underpowered, players start raging against the additions.

Over the course of three Fortnite Chapters, there have been numerous items that have entered the loop that players hate mercilessly. At the same time, they seem to love the materials if they are the ones using them.

B.R.U.T.E., Deku's Smash, and 5 items that Fortnite players hate the most (2023)

1) B.R.U.T.E.

B.R.U.T.E (also known as Mechs) were added to Fortnite in v10.00 in Chapter 1 Season X and are classified as combat vehicles. Back when they were added in the game, they became agents of chaos, going up against every player that they saw. Many even rage-quit entirely upon spotting a mech from a distance.

Pros like Ninja, Tfue, and SypherPK all fell to the mercy of the mechs in Season X, ultimately either getting stomped by one or being fired at by their overpowered barrage of rockets and an incredibly powerful shotgun round. Loopers have a love-hate relationship with one of the most overpowered items on the island.

2) Infinity Blade

The Infinity Blade was added to Fortnite in Chapter 1 Season 7 and could only be acquired from the Polar Peak POI on the island. It dealt 75 damage per hit and healed the player by wielding it at 1 HP per second. The blade also dealt 15 damage per hit on alternate fire. If swung perfectly, it caused 112 DPS damage to the opponent.

It was considered as one of the most overpowered mythic items on the island. Players who possessed it could easily break opponents' builds in a flash and slay them with a single heavy swing, completely obliterating them. Currently, the weapon is vaulted, but is present in the Creative mode as players prefer it that way.

3) Boogie Bomb

Boogie Bombs are considered to be the most toxic items to ever exist in the game. Imagine cranking 90s just to eliminate a sweaty opponent and they throw a Boogie Bomb at you? The player hit by it dances continuously for 10 seconds and can only be lucky to walk away cleverly from the one throwing it.

Over the years, many have lost near-perfect games by being boogie-bombed by their opponents and getting eliminated with ease. A great chunk of gamers have also rage quit by either smacking their keyboards or breaking their screens.

4) Cuddle Fish

Cuddle Fish was an explosive item that was introduced in Fortnite in Chapter 2 Season 6. When thrown by a player on either a platform or another opponent, they got stuck and automatically exploded on impact. It worked on a similar level to the proximity mine, however, the damage dealt by the Cuddle Fish collectively when they were thrown altogether could be lethal.

Players used to throw multiple of these right near the loot laid up on the floor, chests or supply drops, to lure their opponents into an explosive trap. When enemies walked near it, the Cuddle Fish jumped and stuck itself on their body.

Moreover, these items were in Fortnite for just two seasons and were removed as the community raged about them heavily throughout their existence.

5) Deku's Smash

One of the most overpowered mythic items, Deku's Smash was added in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 during the My Hero Academia collaboration. The item works similar to the character's Detroit Smash from the anime. When fired, it releases a heavy blow to everything in its way, completely obliterating the obstacles from the island.

Players have now found a method to damage their opponents that they marked using the Storm Mark Augment or the Falcon Scout, using Deku's Smash accurately.

Due to a recent bug, they can use it through mountains and cliffs if there are enemies hiding behind. It is one of the most hated items for players who are on the receiving end of the mythic and they cannot wait for it to get vaulted from the game.

6) Rail Gun + Recon Scanner

The Rail Gun + Recon Scanner combination was a meta choice that was quite popular in Chapter 2 Season 7 when they arrived as IO tech weapons. Upon firing a Recon Scanner at a location, and as soon as an enemy is marked, players used a rail gun that penetrated through their opponent's builds, eliminating them in a flash.

This item was heavily criticized by pros who used to build in Arena mode and claimed higher ground by ramping over their opponents. Players used this combo to exploit the "wall hack" method and get free kills by eliminating their opponents with a single, extremely powerful shot.

7) Shadow Midas' Drum Gun

Shadow Midas' Drum Gun is the final most hated item on this list. It was extremely popular for its highest fire rate out of all the weapons in Chapter 2 Season 4. It redefined the spray-and-pray meta in the game and anyone who wielded it used to play on absolute god mode for the remainder of the match.

However, the damage it inflicted was 24 per shot but made up for it with its high fire rate with minimal spray and low accuracy. Players who usually prefered the run-and-gun gameplay strategy dominated the island with this mythic weapon.

Those who were on the receiving end of the weapon became extremely critical of it and started rage quitting when eliminated by it in a Fortnite match.
