Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1: Who is The Ageless? Explained

In Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1, The Ageless is a younger snapshot of Geno and the ruler of the Oathbound (likely precursor of the Imagined Order). Per his name, he is immortal and has been around since time immemorial. During Zero Fusion, his castle (The Citadel) was pulled onto the island by The Zero Point.

The Ageless currently rules over the island of Asteria in Chapter 4 Season 1, and his arch nemesis is Omega Knight (based on the voice lines). According to Donald Mustard, this reality, Reality Unknown, is the earliest version of the Imagined Order brought to life. However, the Oathbound and Imagined Order are nothing alike.

While the Imagined Order may be a successor to the Oathbound, their founding principles are polar opposites. As seen on the map, most of the island is in perfect harmony with itself, which is something the IO failed to achieve time and time again.

While it can be argued that this is due to Chapter 4 just starting off, it probably has more to do with The Ageless' mindset.

What does The Ageless want in Fortnite Chapter 4?

Based on the lore (provided thus far), The Ageless wants to maintain law and order on the island. Unlike Geno, who ruled through fear and intimidation, The Ageless has yet to show the same behavioral pattern. In all likelihood, he's a 'good' snapshot in Reality Unknown. However, his motives are still largely unclear.

The only thing that can be said with certainty is that there are a few 'unwanted' elements in his kingdom. Apart from Omega Knight, who openly threatens his rule, others, such as Snowheart, Frozen Red Knight, and perhaps even Joni The Red, seek to overthrow him. Even so, The Ageless is not alone in Fortnite Chapter 4.

Several notable characters, such as Black Knight, Raptorian The Brave, Scrapknight Jules, and Dusty, have sworn their fealty and undying allegiance to him. Another 'Oathbound' also exists but is yet to be shown in-game. For the time being, this enigmatic individual is known only as Rift Warden.

On that note, it should be pointed out that The Ageless has undertaken the task of creating Rift Gates on the island. Their role in the storyline is still unknown, but they may have a connection to the Rift Warden, given the naming scheme. Some community members are of the opinion that this may be a hint towards an upcoming collaboration with Stargate.

Will there be another all-out war for control in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1?

Taking into account that The Ageless already has an enemy on the island, there's a small possibility that war will break out sometime along the storyline.

In fact, The Ageless, alongside characters such as Blue Squire, Black Knight, and Ultima Knight, can be seen fighting on the "The Ageless Champion" Loading Screen.

Since the Battle Bus can be spotted in the backdrop, there's no doubt that the war is taking place sometime in the present timeline. It can be debated that this occurred sometime in the past. However, with Asteria (Fortnite Chapter 4 island) forming very recently and the Battle Bus in view, it's more likely based some time in the near future.

With that said, it may also just be key art. Since the Loading Screen is a Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 Battle Pass exclusive item, developers may have added some extra flair to it.

In either case, with the season still in its infancy, there's no telling what lies ahead. Knowing Epic Games, there are bound to be a few twists and turns involved.
