Fortnite: How to throw chicken

Of all the tamable wildlife in Fortnite, chickens are the only ones that can be thrown and tossed around for fun. While this is not the norm in-game, it becomes necessary when wanting to let go of the animal in order to be able to execute more tactical maneuvers.

Epic Games has decided to turn this into a fun challenge for the Avian Ambush week. To earn 20,000 XP, players will have to throw a total of 10 chickens during a match.

A step-by-step guide on how to throw chickens in Fortnite

1) Land in a safe spot on the island that has spawn points for chicken

The first step of the challenge is to land at a POI on the island that doesn't see, or at least shouldn't see, heavy fighting during the early game. Players must also ensure that they land relatively close to spawn points for chickens. A few such locations are:

  • North of Greasy Grove
  • North of Seven Outpost II
  • North of Lustrous Lagoon
  • North of Sandblast Estates
  • In and around Desolated Delta

2) Find basic gear and ensure that the area has been secured

Once on the ground, the next step is to gear up with basic loot. A mid-range weapon and ammo should suffice for this challenge. It's always advisable to max out shields and find extra shield potions to be on the safe side.

Since this challenge will not involve moving about much, players should secure the area to ensure that no opponents (humans or bots) are running about. The last thing players need is to be ambushed when trying to look for chickens.

3) Look for a chicken and try to enclose it within a small structure or building

The next step of the challenge is to grab a chicken and enclose it. While the process is roughly the same in all modes, there are a few things that have to be discussed.

For the Zero Build mode, players will have to catch a chicken and move into a structure or building to minimize the effort needed for the task at hand. For players in the normal build, they can make four walls to trap the chicken and edit in a door to go inside.

Alternatively, players can also find chicken pens on the island and use them for the task. However, since opponents will be looking for these new landmarks as well, it's best to keep this option as a last resort.

4) Throw the chicken down, pick it up, and repeat the task nine more times

To complete the challenge, players will have to pick up the chicken and throw it down a total of 10 times. Since the challenge doesn't specify that it has to be carried out in 10 individual matches, it can be completed in one match itself.

To throw the chicken, players will have to use the aim button. They can then choose where to throw it on the ground. Since chickens tend to run away after being thrown, this is where the enclosed structure/building will come in handy. Without the means to escape, players can pick them up and throw them down again with ease.
