It is built on AMD's RDNA2 architecture and was launched as a rival to Nvidia's budget and midrange RTX 30 series cards. At its launch, however, it struggled to provide decent frames per second (FPS) in most games, compared to other GPUs. That said, with frequent driver updates from AMD, the performance is significantly better

However, last year AMD reportedly discontinued the production of AMD Radeon RX 6600 GPUs after its RX 7000 series was launched. Hence, it's now mostly available in the used PC market or available at a cheaper price than its initial launch price.

It has a TDP demand of around 130-135W, which means it can be used with a PC with a 550W PSU easily. However, AMD's upscaling technology and Raytracing performance are not as good compared to Nvidia's DLSS. Though you can use FSR and Ray tracing in the RX 6600, it lacks in providing the performance you get with competing cards like RTX 3050 or 3060.


Performance

When it comes to video game performance, the AMD Radeon RX 6600 performs quite well, especially in Full HD resolution. Even in modern video video games like Star Wars: Jedi Survivor and The Last of Us Part 1, the card performs admirably well. The AMD Radeon RX 6600 still performs tremendously well at 1080p resolution in 2024, with super smooth gaming experiences expected even at the highest settings. However, at 1440p resolution, it struggles to provide decent FPS in most modern games and can be only used with e-sports or multiplayer gaming titles.

Despite being an old chip, the RX 6600 supports advanced features like FSR and Ray Tracing, which contribute to providing a visually stunning experience. It also has low Thermal Design Power (TDP) demands, and its usual asking price of less than $200 makes it a great buy for budget PC users, especially for students.
