“It’s a lot less stressful in that booth” - Kevin Kisner gets back on the mic a week after his broadcast debut

After making his debut as a broadcaster at last week's Sentry 2024, Kevin Kisner was once again mic'd up, but this time on the golf course during his Friday round at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Kisner made his first start this season at the Sony Open this week but missed the cut after shooting 75 and 71. He aggregated at 6-over and was eight strokes short of the cutline.

On the 12th hole of the second round, broadcasters had a brief chat with Kisner. He accepted that being on the golf course was much more stressful than commenting on it. The first question was whether he recovered from his commentary debut last week.

"I guess not," he replied. "You boys put me through too much ringer. I'm five over out here, getting lapped. So you're saying you do miss us? It's a lot less stressful in that booth, I can promise you that."

The follow-up question was if he was a bit rusty in the first round given he hardly had much time to practice.

"Yeah, yesterday was tough. I really got off to a bad start. Shot 4 over on my first nine. But you know, I saw some stuff that was pretty good and then today's been wild," Kisner stated.
"I stuffed it in there on the 2nd hole to four feet and three-putted, and then I got to the six tee, and at the top of my backswing, my driver shaft snapped in my grip. So I'm hitting some random driver right now, he added."

During the second round, the 39-year-old golfer missed an easy birdie putt four feet away from the hole. Kisner ended up taking two more shots to put the ball into the cup. The commentator didn't miss the opportunity to bring that incident up.

"I think it's karma," he said jokingly. "Jordan Spieth at home scratching on that dog."

Kisner said he loved the Waialae Country Club, where he hadn't missed the cut since 2014 until this week.

"I love it [the Waialae Country Club]. It's it's kind of crazy this year. The wind's completely opposite than what we've ever seen and it's going from 25 sustained to 0 today. So you're trying to judge gust and direction is kind of flipping all over the place. So a little bit difficult to judge the wind," he explained.
"Like we just played ten and I hit driver sand wedge, which I've been driving the green in years past. So wild, wild Flip on what we normally play here," Kisner added.

The four-time PGA Tour winner continued having a chat for a while before resuming his game.

When will Kevin Kisner return as a broadcaster?

After debuting as an announcer at Sentry 2024 last week, Kevin Kisner will once again don his commentator's hat at the 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open. The event is scheduled to take place at TPC Scottsdale from February 8 to 11.

Last year, he was at TPC Scottsdale as a player but failed to make the cut after shooting 74 and 76.
