A large number of Grand Theft Auto players are PlayStation gamers, but not all of them have a GTA 6 compatible system. Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to release in Fall 2025, exclusively on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There are also rumors of the PS5 Pro coming out soon, which is another console that GTA 6 is expected to launch on. Now, according to a new report, many PS players don't own a PS5.

This means that when Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out in Fall 2025, around half the PlayStation playerbase won't be able to play it as this would require a GTA 6 compatible system.

Half of PS gamers don't own GTA 6 compatible system

As reported by video games journalist Stephen Totilo, Sony revealed a few interesting details about the PS4 and PS5. First off, Sony has disclosed that the PS5 is currently in the latter half of its lifespan and that it has sold 59 million units. Now, they further revealed that PlayStation has a total of 118 million monthly active users, which means that 50% of these users are still on PlayStation 4, a last-gen console.

While not all players might be interested in playing Grand Theft Auto 6, there are bound to be many among them who do. However, since they don't have a GTA 6 compatible system, they won't be able to play the game unless they upgrade. Grand Theft Auto 6 isn't too far away from release, as Fall 2025 is only a bit more than a year away from now.

So, by limiting GTA 6 to PlayStation 5, Rockstar might be losing out on numerous PS users when the game is launched. As mentioned before, there's also the fact that many players don't plan on playing it at all. In fact, a recent survey suggests that around 49% of gamers in the UK are unlikely to buy GTA 6.

On the other hand, there have been countless rumors about the PS5 Pro, a supposedly upcoming Sony console that has improved performance over the regular PS5. While Sony hasn't announced the console yet, the specifications allegedly got leaked, and it hints at the improved performance.

Grand Theft Auto fans have been naturally curious to know whether this new console will be a GTA 6 compatible system or not. Some experts have even suggested that the game might run better on this rumored console.
