Dumbbell exercises for chest muscles are an excellent way to work out the muscles. With dumbbells, you can perform a wide range of exercises that target different parts of your chest, from the upper to the lower and inner to outer muscles.

1) Dumbbell Chest Press

The dumbbell chest press is one of the most popular dumbbell exercises for chest to build muscles. To perform this exercise, lie flat on your back on a bench, with your feet firmly planted on the ground. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and extend your arms straight up over your chest.

Slowly lower the weights towards your chest, keeping your elbows close to your body, and then push them back up to the starting position.

2) Incline Dumbbell Chest Press

The incline dumbbell chest press is one of the most effective dumbbell exercises for chest. It is a variation of the dumbbell chest press that focuses more on the upper part of your chest.

To perform this exercise, set an adjustable bench at a 45-degree angle and lie down with your feet flat on the ground. Hold a dumbbell in each hand, with your palms facing forward. Slowly lower the weights towards your chest, keeping your elbows close to your body, and then push them back up to the starting position.

3) Dumbbell Flyes

Dumbbell flyes are an excellent exercise for targeting the inner chest muscles. To perform this exercise, lie flat on your back on a bench with a dumbbell in each hand. Start with your arms extended straight up over your chest, with your palms facing each other.

Slowly lower your arms out to the sides, keeping a slight bend on your elbows, until your arms are parallel to the ground. Then, bring your arms back up to the starting position.

Dumbbell chest workout without bench

If you don't have access to a bench, there are still a number of effective chest workouts at home with dumbbells. We will outline a sample dumbbell chest workout without bench.


1) Push-Ups

Push-ups are an excellent bodyweight exercise that targets the chest muscles. To perform a push-up, start in a high plank position with your hands shoulder-width apart and your feet together. Lower your body towards the ground, keeping your elbows close to your body, and then push yourself back up to the starting position.

If push-ups on the ground are too challenging, you can modify the exercise by doing them on your knees or using an elevated surface like a bench or a step.


2) Dumbbell Floor Press

The dumbbell floor press is a variation of dumbbell exercises for chest of the dumbbell bench press that can be done on the ground. To perform this exercise, lie flat on your back on a mat or towel with a dumbbell in each hand. Start with your arms extended straight up over your chest, with your palms facing forward.

Slowly lower the weights towards your chest, keeping your elbows close to your body, and then push them back up to the starting position.


3) Dumbbell Pullovers

Dumbbell pullovers are excellent dumbbell exercises for chests to target the upper chest. To perform this exercise, lie flat on your back on a mat or towel with a dumbbell in both hands. Start with your arms extended straight up over your chest, with your palms facing each other.

Slowly lower the weight behind your head, keeping a slight bend in your elbows, and then bring the weight back up to the starting position.
