Minecraft mobs come in many different shapes, sizes, and dispositions. Some are quite dangerous, while others are excellent with players around. Whatever the case, the uniqueness of mobs means that some have weaknesses in combat or deep-rooted fears that they'd rather not confront. It never hurts to know these shortcomings for players, just in case.

Granted, not every Minecraft mob has a weakness or a phobia, but many do. Fans never quite know when they might come in handy, so keeping them in mind for further reference doesn't hurt. Since this is the case, it isn't a bad time to take a look at all of the mobs with fears or exploitable weaknesses as of Minecraft's Trails & Tales update.

Weaknesses and fears are based on multiple factors in Minecraft, and every mob reacts differently to them. Some creatures take damage from their weaknesses, while others are kept at a distance based on their fears. Whatever the case, these shortcomings of mobs are exploitable and can be quite beneficial for players at any skill level.

As of Minecraft 1.20.2, these are the following weaknesses and fears that have been confirmed for the game's mobs:

  • Aquatic Mobs - Cannot survive outside of water, or they will suffocate.
  • Bees - Take damage from water in Java Edition.
  • Blazes - Weak to contact with powder snow, snowballs, and water.
  • Creepers - Afraid of cats and ocelots and will stay away from them.
  • Endermen - Take damage from water or rain.
  • Foxes - Flee from wolves, polar bears, and players unless they're sneaking.
  • Hoglins - Flee from warped fungus, Nether portals, and respawn anchors. Also vulnerable to fire damage.
  • Magma Cubes - Take extra damage from powder snow.
  • Pandas - Whimper when near a thunderstorm.
  • Parrots - If they consume cookies, they'll take poison damage and die because chocolate is toxic.
  • Phantoms - Afraid of cats/ocelots, much like creepers, and will keep their distance from them.
  • Piglins - Afraid of blue light that emanates from soul torches, soul lanterns, and soul campfires. Piglins also run from zombified piglins and zoglins.
  • Rabbits - Flee from wolves that come within ten blocks of them.
  • Skeletons and Strays - Run from wolves until they take damage from one, where they will then turn around and defend themselves. It will also catch fire in direct sunlight.

  • Skeleton Horses - Take damage from potions of healing.
  • Snow Golems - Take damage from water and warm climates, though they can survive in warm biomes in Java Edition if provided with the Fire Resistance effect.
  • Striders - Take damage from water or rain.
  • Villagers - Flee from zombies, zombie villagers, husks, drowned, zombified piglins (in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition), zoglins, vindicators, pillagers, ravagers, evokers, vexes, and illusioners.
  • Wandering Trader - Stays eight blocks away from zombies, illagers, and vexes.
  • Wolves - Free from llamas.
  • Zombified Piglins - Take damage from potions of healing.
  • Zombies, Drowned, and Zombie Villagers - Catch on fire in sunlight. They can also take damage from healing potions as an undead mob.

As Minecraft continues to evolve, mobs may even receive more weak spots or fears. Moreover, the upcoming 1.21 update is introducing armadillos, who also curl up in fear when players approach. Mojang isn't slowing down with its free updates, so many more critters and creatures are likely on the way with their own distinct behavioral patterns, phobias, and Achilles' Heels.
