Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson recently reflected on his time as a spotter for Kyle Busch in the latter's early days as a NASCAR driver. The duo worked together in Busch's three-year stint with Hendrick Motorsports.

Kyle Busch secured his NASCAR Cup Series full-time ride in 2005 and quickly established himself as one of the top drivers in the sport. He quickly made his mark by winning two races and earning a spot in the playoffs in the subsequent two seasons. Busch's potential was evident, and his move to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2008 would later solidify his status as one of NASCAR's premier drivers.

During his early days at HMS, Busch was known not only for his talent but also for his fiery temperament. This was something Jeff Dickerson, who served as Busch's spotter, experienced firsthand. Recently, on the Dale Jr. Download podcast, Dickerson delved into some of the memorable moments he shared with Kyle Busch. He revealed:

"I remember when I was spotting for Kyle. It’s not like 2024 Kyle, I had 2006 Kyle, it was crazy. I remember just being like we’re at Vegas or someplace and he was coming apart and I was egging him on. I was like, 'you’re the man Kyle. This is stupid, like what the sh*t?'"
"On Sunday morning, I get a call from Ken. He goes, 'come on in.' So I walked in and he was just like, 'you know who you’re spotting for?' I’m like, 'yes sir.' He’s just like, 'you know, he can be a little hot?' He’s just like, 'perhaps we don’t put fire on that flame.' It was kinda that thing where it’s just like you don’t have to exacerbate a situation. You don't have to dump fuel on a situation that's coming apart," he added.

Kyle Busch voices his opinion on NASCAR's tire choices for All-Star race

As the NASCAR All-Star race approaches, Busch has expressed his views on the new tire regulations for the event.

The upcoming race at North Wilkesboro Speedway will see the reintroduction of an alternate tire choice, allowing teams to utilize multiple tire compounds during the race weekend. Busch, now with Richard Childress Racing, remains skeptical about the impact of these changes. Speaking to the media ahead of the Darlington Raceway event, the 39-year-old remarked:

"The last time we all kind of put it on the same time, there was no difference putting it on. So this time I feel like we're probably all gonna strategize the same way again."

He added:

"There's not many different ways you can skin the same cat to figure out how to win these races. It's no different than every Sunday, right? It's spelled out. There's no thinking to it anymore, to strategy."

Kyle Busch is currently ranked 13th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. He has 324 points to his name, courtesy of two top-5 finishes in 14 races so far.
