Virginia Cavaliers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Key Stats

Virginia's senior quarterback Brennan Armstrong has really struggled this year after an excellent 2021 season. So far, Armstrong has thrown seven interceptions to just five TDs, and he's averaging a measly 6.5 passing yards per attempt. His seven picks are almost as many as he had all of last year when he threw only ten over a full season. He tossed 31 TDs during 2021, but since Week 1 of this year, he hasn't been able to record more than one in any game. Armstrong's offensive line also hasn't done him any favors, as last week, Lousiville sacked the Cavaliers QB six times. Collectively, Virginia has fumbled eight times, which isn't too encouraging either. Georgia Tech's defense has been pretty average, but they have forced 11 turnovers in their last five, which has been key in all their wins.

The Yellow Jackets offense has done just enough to notch two close wins over Duke and Pitt most recently. QB Jeff Sims has rather pedestrian numbers, but Georgia Tech has elected to run the ball exactly twice as much compared to the pass. Sims leads the Yellow Jackets in rushing attempts at 84, but the two-headed backfield of Hassan Hall and Dontae Smith has been very reliable. Individually, none of their numbers are eye-popping, but collectively they do enough to move the ball downfield. Virginia's defense has been vulnerable on the ground, as they've allowed 448 rushing yards over their past two games. Defensive performance and consistency will be key tonight, with not much separating these two schools talent-wise.

Virginia Cavaliers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Betting Prediction

Virginia has been pretty awful this year on offense besides their Week 1 performance. They'll hope that 11 days off helps their offense regroup, but Cavaliers fans shouldn't get their hopes up. Georgia Tech has won two tight contests in a row, but in both games, they were underdogs, which is impressive. The Yellow Jackets have been great against the spread, especially at home versus Virginia in recent years, so back them to win and cover here tonight.

Prediction: Georgia Tech -3 (-107)
