ATP Rankings Update: Alexander Zverev returns to Top-4 after Italian Open heroics, Rafael Nadal continues rise in farewell season | May 20

After winning the 2024 Italian Open, Alexander Zverev has secured the fourth spot in the latest ATP Rankings update. With 6,345 points to his name, the German overtook Daniil Medvedev on the grid and now holds a 50-point lead over the Russian.

Meanwhile, tennis legend Rafael Nadal continued his positive rise in the ATP rankings, following a second-round exit in Rome. The Spaniard shuffled up 29 places and is now among the top 280 tennis players in the world.

Zverev put up a scintillating performance in Rome last week. He defeating three of the top 30 seeds en route to his second title at the tournament. The 27-year-old outfoxed in-form Chilean Nicolas Jarry 6-4, 7-5 in the final.

On the other hand, former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal was stunned by the Hubert Hurkacz in the second-round of the Italian Open. Despite a valiant effort by the Spaniard, he fell to the seventh seed in one hour and 33 minutes.

However, thanks to five wins from eight matches and a fourth round appearance in Madrid, Nadal continued his rise in the ATP Rankings. He ended 2023 outside the top 600, but is currently among the top 300 players in the world.

Jarry moves up in the ATP Rankings update : BNL D'Italia 2024 - Day Fourteen

Nicolas Jarry continued his propitious season in the 2024 Italian Open last week. He entered Rome on the back of early exits in Barcelona and Madrid, but rediscovered his form and made amends with a remarkable runner-up finish at the event.

With 2295 points to his name, the Chilean galloped eight places in the ATP Rankings and secured the 16th spot in the world. He edged past the likes of Alexander Bublik, Karen Khachanov and French No. 1 Ugo Humbert on the grid.

On the contrary, Holger Rune's ordinary run of form continued in the Italian Open this week. He entered the Masters 1000 event on the back of a third round exit in Madrid and began his campaign with a steady win over Luca Nardi.

The Dane then locked horns with Sebastian Baez and fell to the Argentine in one hour and 48 minutes, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. He dropped to the 13th spot in the ATP Rankings with a mere 45-point lead over Tommy Paul, who chalked up a solid semifinal finish in Rome.
