Cameron Brink has become one of the fan-favorite rookies in the WNBA. So far, she has proved to be a great addition to the LA Sparks lineup. As the Sparks faced the Las Vegas Aces for the first time this season, Brink left WNBA fans in awe of her defensive prowess at Michelob ULTRA Arena.

In the first quarter alone, Cameron Brink had three blocks. While she struggled on the offensive front, she was a defensive anchor for the team. Reacting to a video of LA Sparks rookie blocking Jackie Young’s 4-foot driving layup in the first quarter at 6:40, fans reacted enthusiastically on the internet.

Brink's performance was so impressive, that one fan could not help but compare her to San Antonio Spurs' rookie Victor Wembanyama.

"Cameron Brink ROTY and DPOY. LA Sparks basically drafted Wemby!"

Reacting to the video and the rookie's first-quarter block stats, fans heaped praise on her block party:

"Three Blocks? In the first quarter? Woooaaw!" Another fan wrote.
"Three Brocks in the first quarter wow. This is unbelievable," added another fan.

Moreover, some fans were already hyping up Brink's case for the Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to her candidacy for Rookie of the Year.

A fan wrote, "Defensive Player of The Year candidate."
"Give her the defensive player of the year already she’s better then Rudy Gobert," another fan added.
"Brink is the real deal. Gonna win multiple DPOY’s," said another fan.

How did Cameron Brink perform against Las Vegas Aces?

The defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces, handed the LA Sparks their second consecutive defeat of the 2024 regular season. The Aces won the game 89-82, behind 2023 WNBA Finals MVP A’Ja Wilson and star guard Jackie Young - both garnered 22 points. Conversely, Cameron Brink did not have a memorable offensive night.

In the second game of her WNBA career, Brink scored just 3 points, making 1 of 7 shots from the field and missing both of her three-point attempts. She failed to score in the first two quarters and missed all of her field goals during that time.

However, the Stanford rookie had an impressive night on the defensive end. Brink had a game-high five blocks in four quarters, along with eight rebounds. She has now a total of seven blocks in two games this season.

Although the Sparks lost their opening game against the Atlanta Dream (81-92), Cameron Brink had a decent offensive game, scoring 11 points on 66.7% shooting from the field.
