AEW Rampage

Rampage or Friday Night Rampage is a secondary pro-wrestling weekly programming by All Elite Wrestling (AEW). It premiered on August 13, 2021, and airs every Friday at 10 PM in the USA on TNT. It lasts for sixty minutes including commercials. Although it premiers every Friday, it does not go head-to-head with WWE's Friday Night SmackDown which airs on Fox from 8 PM ET to 10 PM ET.

Highlights of AEW Rampage and Collision May 18, 2024

Singles Match: Orange Cassidy vs. Isiah Kassidy

Orange Cassidy and Isiah exchanged arm drags and quick covers before Isiah took control, sending Orange into the safety railing and attempting a piledriver on the steel steps. Orange countered with a backbody drop, prompting a series of hard-hitting moves inside the ring. Isiah went for a Swanton Bomb for a near fall, yet Orange countered with a Beach Break to recover the upper hand.

Singles Match: Hook vs. Johnny TV

HOOK began the match with a hip toss and Saito suplex on Johnny, who momentarily acquired control with a jawbreaker and Disaster Kick after an interruption by Taya. Johnny attempted Starship Pain, yet HOOK avoided it and immediately locked in RedRum to get the triumph.

Singles Match: Nick Wayne vs. Jack Cartwheel

Wayne started strong, yet Cartwheel countered and sent him to the floor. Cartwheel attempted a Sasuke Special, missing and landing hard. Back in the ring, Wayne hit Wayne's World and followed up with the Housecall for the win.

Singles Match: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Rocky Romero

Shibata began with Figure Four, yet Rocky reached the ropes. Rocky then applied an Octopus Hold, yet Shibata countered with another Figure Four. Shibata retaliated with hard chops and a sleeper hold, but Rocky answered with a jawbreaker and near falls. Shibata eventually triumphed by securing a heel hook, forcing Romero to tap out.

Singles Match: Will Ospreay vs. Shane Taylor

Before the match, Roderick Strong joined the commentary table. Ospreay began strong with a flying dropkick and a plancha, however, Taylor took control with a leg drop on the apron. After exchanging big moves and near falls, Ospreay managed to escape from a package piledriver and hit the Stormbreaker for the victory.

Singles Match: Serena Deeb vs. Anna Jay

Deeb starts strong locking Jay in the Paradise Lock and hitting a low dropkick. After Jay tweaks her knee during a fall to the outside, Deeb targets the injury with a dragon screw leg whip and a single-leg Boston Crab. Despite Jay's attempts to retaliate with a Queenslayer and a hook kick, Deeb eventually secures the win with a double underhook facebuster and the Boston Crab.

Singles Match: Bryan Keith vs. Boulder

Boulder ambushes Keith, permitting Jacked Jameson and Bronson to uncover "titty city." After a powerslam from Boulder for a near fall, Keith recaptures control by sending Bronson into "titty city." Keith then takes out Boulder with a running lariat, and a headbutt, and wraps up with a Diamond Dust for the win.

Tag Team Match: Bryan Danielson & FTR vs. Lance Archer & The Righteous

Dax chops Vincent and hits a snap suplex for a two-count. FTR double-teams Dutch with a gordbuster, yet disarray follows when Archer and Vincent storm the ring. Danielson dropkicks Vincent from a chair in the corner, while Cash suplexes him on the floor. Dutch powers through Dax and almost pins him, however, Danielson rallies with YES kicks and a flying clothesline. After a series of high-impact moves, including a Powerplex by FTR and a Busaiku Knee by Danielson, FTR finishes Vincent with the Shatter Machine for the win.

AEW Rampage History

AEW was announced in January 2019 and began its weekly programming in October of that year by the name of Dynamite. It airs on Wednesday Nights. The next year, AEW and WarnerMedia signed a $175 Million contract extension for its programming and thus, the promotion decided to increase its content library. With the new deal, it was announced that the company would soon introduce a new weekly show.

While AEW had Dark and Dark Elevation, both these shows aired on YouTube only. AEW revealed their second weekly television show in May 2021 by the name of Rampage and that it will air on Friday Nights.

The first episode aired on August 13 that year and since then has premiered every Friday on TNT. Earlier, both Dynamite and Rampage were supposed to be shifted to TBS in 2022 but only Dynamite was switched to the sister brand. Also, the show has sometimes been moved to Thursday or Saturday Nights due to schedule conflicts.

Rampage first started off as the programming second to Dynamite. In 2023, AEW closed down Dark and Dark Elevation and introduced a new program - AEW Collision. It airs every Saturday on TNT. With the removal of Dark and Dark Elevation, AEW had considerably fewer spots for its younger talent to wrestle. Thus, the role was given to Rampage which has, since then, been used as a developmental brand for AEW.

AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision air live on TBS and TNT on Wednesday and Saturday Nights respectively. However, the same is not the case with Rampage as it airs every Friday but not live. It is usually pre-taped, either alongside Collision or mostly alongside Dynamite. Thus, the fans who buy the tickets for these events also get to watch Collision live before the other fans watch it on Friday.

While the timings of Rampage do not allow it to go head-to-head with SmackDown, it has occurred once. On October 15, 2021, SmackDown aired for 150 minutes, half an hour more than its usual timings. The show was dubbed Supersized SmackDown and was set to take on Rampage for the latter's first thirty minutes. However, due to MLB Playoffs on Fox Sports, SmackDown aired on FS1, which resulted in a huge loss of viewership. SmackDown could grab only 285,000 viewers between Age 18 to 49 in comparison to Rampage's 328,000.

Both WWE and AEW have three weekly programming. While WWE has RAW, SmackDown, and NXT, AEW has Dynamite, Rampage, and Collision. However, AEW does not have a brand extension like WWE.
